Connect Gmail to Cowork
Read emails, draft replies, organize messages, and manage labels. Set up with read-only access by default.
What Cowork can do with Gmail
- • Read and search emails and threads
- • Extract data from email content
- • Draft reply suggestions
- • Summarize long email threads
- • Organize emails by label or category
- • Export email data to CSV or structured files
Setup guide
1
Connect Gmail in Cowork settings
Open Cowork, go to Settings > Connectors > Gmail. Click "Connect Gmail" and follow the OAuth flow. You will be asked to grant permissions — read-only is recommended.
2
Choose your permission level
Read-only: Cowork can read and search emails but cannot send or modify. Full access: Cowork can also draft, label, and organize (but still cannot send without your confirmation).
3
Specify which folders to access
You can limit Cowork to specific labels or folders. For example, grant access to Inbox and Sent only, or a specific project label.
4
Test the connection
Ask Cowork: "List the last 5 emails in my inbox with sender and subject." This confirms the connection is working without any risk.
Default permissions
- • Read emails and threads
- • Search by sender, subject, date, or content
- • Cannot send emails without your explicit instruction
- • Cannot delete emails in read-only mode
- • All actions logged in the Cowork activity log
