Drop #30: Docs, Slides, and Design Leave Beta

by ClaudeCowork.com

Last week the cloud switch landed. This week the products that grew out of Cowork finished their move into Claude: Docs, Slides, and Design are out of beta and available on every plan, including Free, and two new beta products, Dashboards and Motion, joined them. Anthropic also released Claude Haiku 5.5, and the desktop app shipped two releases with fixes for scheduled tasks, computer use, and Cowork startup.

Docs, Slides, and Design Are Out of Beta

On October 8, Anthropic announced that Claude Docs, Claude Slides, and Claude Design are out of beta and available on every plan, including Free. Design now works inside any Claude conversation rather than on its own site. The standalone site at claude.ai/design stays up until December 14; after it closes, chats and project comments from the standalone version will not be available and public links to standalone projects stop working. Team design systems can be migrated from the Artifacts page.

For Enterprise organizations, Docs, Slides, and Design turn on by default on October 15 - tomorrow - and admins can enable them earlier. If you are an admin, that is the date to check your Organization settings.

Two New Betas: Dashboards and Motion

Claude Dashboards is in beta on paid plans. You ask a question in plain language and Claude builds a dashboard that stays current. It connects to data platforms such as BigQuery, Databricks, and Snowflake and to CRMs such as Salesforce. Clicking any number shows the query behind it, and each chart shows when its data was last refreshed.

Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans. From a prompt, Claude builds an animated explainer that you can edit in the editor, ask Claude to change, and download as an MP4. Anthropic says Motion is built from code, not a video generation model, so there is no generated footage and no AI-generated people. On Enterprise, Dashboards and Motion are off by default and admins turn them on under Organization settings → Artifacts.

Unified Claude Gets a November 10 Date

The October 8 desktop release (2.31226.0) added a configuration key, desktopHome, for organizations managing the desktop app. Its notes describe Unified Claude (beta) as combining Chat and Cowork into one experience with Cowork's agentic capabilities, and say organizations that leave the key out stay on the current Chat and Cowork split until November 10, when Unified Claude goes on for all orgs. Admins can opt in earlier or set the key to turn Chat and Cowork off entirely; Claude Code is not affected.

Desktop Releases: Scheduled Tasks and Computer Use Fixes

Version 2.31226.0 (October 8) changed several things that matter if you schedule Cowork tasks. A scheduled task created while the task list was still loading no longer overwrites the prompt of an existing task with the same name. Claude no longer asks for access to a folder the session already had, which had left scheduled runs waiting on an approval nobody was there to give. Scheduled tasks no longer skip a tool your organization's policy marks "ask": the run shows the approval prompt and waits. And the "Scheduled task failed" notification now appears when a task's sandbox cannot start. On macOS, computer use no longer saves into hidden folders or types into an app that is not responding.

Version 2.37337.1 (October 13) added "Open in new window" for chats, so a conversation can stay open beside your main window. Its Cowork fixes include scheduled tasks on your computer that could not be edited after their first run, the first message of a new task being lost when the app reloaded during startup, and messages that could not be sent sometimes appearing as sent with no error. Charts, tables, and diagrams in artifacts no longer stay blank when you are offline, because their libraries now ship with the app, and computer use in the background no longer swallows your keystrokes after opening a dropdown menu in another app.

Claude Haiku 5.5

On October 7, Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5, described as the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model it has released, aimed at high-volume, cost-sensitive work. It joins Claude Sonnet 5.5, which arrived September 28. Check Anthropic's models documentation for current pricing and availability before you plan around it.

Why This Matters for Cowork Users

The Cowork name is receding while its capabilities spread. Documents, decks, designs, dashboards, and animations are now things you ask for in a regular Claude conversation, on the free plan as well as paid ones, and the separate Cowork surface has a date, November 10, after which organizations that did nothing are moved to the unified experience. The practical advice for the next four weeks is to try the new output types in your normal chats and, if you manage a team, decide whether to opt in before the default flips.

Tip of the Week: Name the Output and Who Sees It

Docs, Slides, and Design outputs start private and can be shared with named people, so it helps to say in the request what you are making and who it is for.

❌ Weak

Write something about our Q3 launch.

✅ Strong

Make a Claude Doc summarizing our Q3 launch for the leadership team: what shipped, what slipped, and three decisions we need from them. Keep it to one page, and leave comments on anything you are unsure about instead of guessing.

The rule of thumb: name the format, the audience, and the length, and ask Claude to flag uncertainty rather than fill it in. Then share the document only with the people who need it.

Worth Reading This Week

Until next time.
