Drop #19: Cowork Goes Everywhere - Web, Mobile, and Cloud Sessions

by ClaudeCowork.com

Cowork just stopped being a desktop-only product. On July 7, Anthropic launched Claude Cowork on web and mobile, backed by cloud sessions that keep running after you close your laptop.

Cowork Arrives on Web and Mobile

Since its January launch, Cowork has lived exclusively in the desktop app. As of July 7 it is available on the web and in the Claude mobile apps, starting with Max subscribers and rolling out to more plans over the coming weeks.

The desktop app is not going away. Anthropic says it remains the home for deep work, where Claude can access your local files and browser. But web and mobile mean people who never installed the app can now use Cowork.

Cloud Sessions Keep Working After You Close Your Laptop

The web and mobile launch is backed by cloud sessions, currently in beta. Cowork can now run a session remotely so it keeps going after you close your laptop, with results waiting for you next time you check in. Anthropic is offering doubled usage limits for beta participants through August 5 while access rolls out gradually to more users over the following weeks.

What People Actually Hand Off to Cowork

Alongside the launch, Anthropic released data from 1.2 million anonymized and aggregated Cowork sessions across more than 600,000 organizations. The largest category, at 33.4% of usage, was business process operations, such as pulling scattered updates into a single report, building onboarding checklists, and reconciling spreadsheets. Content creation and copywriting came second at 16.4%. Software development accounted for just 8.7% of usage.

Tip of the Week: Hand Off, Walk Away

With cloud sessions in beta, babysitting a Cowork session on your laptop is now optional. The new pattern is the hand-off: start the task, close the lid, and let the session report back to your phone.

❌ Weak

Kick off a long research task, then keep your laptop open all afternoon, checking in on the session every ten minutes.

✅ Strong

Start the task, close your laptop, and check your phone in an hour for the finished output instead of watching the session run.

The rule of thumb: if you would normally just wait, close the lid instead.

Worth Reading This Week

Cowork started the year as a desktop app; it ends this week as a cross-device product whose sessions outlive your laptop lid. Worth adjusting your delegation habits accordingly.

Until next time.
